January 1st, 2020: New Tax Laws

Follow

States have been rolling out new laws that require marketplaces like Kidizen to collect sales tax and remit it directly to the states based on a 2018 Supreme Court ruling. Effective as of January 1, 2020, Kidizen will begin collecting taxes from Buyers on all items purchased on Kidizen as we are legally obligated to do based on these changes.

This means that when a Buyer makes a purchase on Kidizen, state sales tax will be added
(when applicable) to the order total at checkout. Taxes are not included in the listed price for
any Items listed by Sellers but will be displayed to Buyers before confirmation of any purchase.
The amount of taxes collected is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the
type of Items purchased, the Buyer’s designated delivery address, and/or the location of the
Seller. Because taxes are determined by both the shipping and return addresses, all Sellers will
be required to have a return address in their account as of 1:00 am EST on January 1, 2020.
If a seller does not have a return address by this time, their listings will be hidden until a
return address is entered, at which point listings will be unhidden and available for sale.

While marketplace-wide changes like this are never easy, we’re committed to supporting our
community of parent Sellers and Buyers and will continue to look for ways in which parents can
achieve a more sustainable livelihood through Kidizen.
