You are in control of who pays for shipping: you or the buyer. And whether you or the buyer pays for shipping, our marketplace fee structure does not take the fee off the cost of the label if you purchase a label through us (plus you get a lot of other benefits to purchasing a label through us, read more here).
If you choose to have the buyer pay shipping, choose an estimated price of how much shipping will cost for the item. You can estimate price using our shipping estimator located in blue below the Shipping Price. The price along with the shipping cost you enter will be the total price the buyer pays for the item.
What is actually changing?
The biggest change is that the marketplace fee is no longer taken from the entire price of the listing if the seller purchases a label through Kidizen. The fee will be deducted from the price of the listing minus the shipping amount (this happens after the label is purchased on an order). Also, the seller can now choose whether to have the buyer pay shipping or to have the list price include shipping. You can keep your shop exactly how it is now and have the prices of your listings include shipping. Or you can change your listings to have the buyer pay by editing the item.
How does it work?
- You list your item, can choose either to have buyer pay shipping or you can choose the listing to include shipping.
- When the item sells, the marketplace fee is taken off the entire buyer purchase price. Your money is then pending.
- You can then purchase a label through Kidizen. Now that we know the actual cost of shipping, the marketplace fee is then just taken off the price of the item. Your pending amount changes to reflect this (along with the purchasing of the shipping label).
Do I have to change my prices?
Nope! You can leave your shop exactly how it is now. If you do wish to change them to buyer pays shipping in the future, you can do so by editing your listings.
What if I ship from the Post Office directly?
You can still ship through the Post Office (and other avenues), however the fee will come off the entire listing price (as it does currently) as our system will not know how much you paid for a label.
Do I have to weigh my items before I list?
Nope! You can list exactly as you do now. If you do want the buyer to pay shipping but don’t want to weigh items prior, you can estimate shipping costs in the app by tapping estimate shipping at the bottom of the listing screen and enter what you think the weight might be. This is what the buyer will pay for the shipping so try and estimate as close as you can.
How does it work if I’m bundling items?
If the seller has a shop discount set, the discount will come off the item price only and not the shipping. If the item includes shipping, the shop discount will come off the entire price. For orders with multiple items, the buyer will pay the total of all the prices and shipping. If you wish to have the buyer pay less for shipping because you are able to fit them all in the same package, you can change the prices before they pay to reflect the total shipping cost you will be paying.
Where do I see the total amount I’m making on a sale?
The amount you will make is at the bottom of the listing screen (see image towards the top) and is the You Make price. This changes depending on how much you list it for and the shipping cost. If you are choosing to have the listing include shipping, you can still estimate how much you will make with the shipping cost by inputting the shipping price.
What keeps people from selling at item for .99 cents with $20 shipping?
The marketplace fee is taken off the list price minus the shipping after a seller purchases the label through us. So a seller can charge the buyer $20 to ship (although this wouldn't be in their best interest since it would deter buyers), but our fee structure will only deduct the fee amount based on what the actual shipping cost is.
Can I filter by shops who cover shipping?
Not currently but definitely a possibility down the road!
